This pivotal call came during the International Youth Day celebration held in Oleh, Delta State, organized by the NDDC to celebrate and spotlight young innovators making impactful strides through digital solutions in the region.

“Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development” was the theme of the event, highlighting the essential role of young people in driving sustainable progress through innovative use of digital tools.

NDDC Chairman, Mr. Chiedu Ebie (represented by Comrade Michael Akpobire), emphasized the vast opportunities that digital technology provides, stating, “Digital tools can transition youths from being job seekers to job creators, making sustainable development achievable through productive use of the internet space.”

Keynote speakers, including Prof. Presley Obukadata, a strategic communication expert from Delta State University Abraka, and Dr. Okpako Ejeata, Dean of Computing at the University of Delta Agbor, shared insights into harnessing digital platforms for national growth. Prof. Obukadata’s address, titled “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” underscored the urgent need for actionable steps to turn theoretical commitments into impactful outcomes.

Dr. Ejeata further urged youths, including those engaged in cybercrime, to redirect their skills toward ethical digital practices like ethical hacking, which promises lasting rewards and peace of mind.

Together, the session reinforced the need for collaborative efforts from government bodies, religious institutions, and NGOs to guide Niger Delta youths in using digital platforms positively for the benefit of the nation.
