following the viral release of a video in which he accused police officers of extortion at a Lagos checkpoint.

Sowore received a formal invitation from the Force Intelligence Department to discuss multiple allegations, including obstructing public officers, disobeying lawful orders, and cyberstalking.

In a letter signed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, it was stated, “This office is investigating incidents involving resistance to public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, actions aimed at causing harm or hindering arrests, intimidation tactics, negligence, refusal to assist public servants, and cyberstalking, in which your name is prominently mentioned.”

The letter instructed Sowore to report to the Force Intelligence Department on January 27, 2025, at 10 a.m.

In response to the summons, Sowore’s supporters, organized under the Take It Back Movement, initiated a campaign protesting police extortion. A flier advertising the demonstration circulated widely on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), calling for a gathering at the Force Headquarters.

Titled “Occupy Force Headquarters,” the protest flier prominently featured images of Sowore and the Inspector General of Police, accompanied by bold red text demanding accountability.

By early Monday morning, heavily armed officers in anti-riot gear had barricaded the roads leading to the Force Headquarters, evidencing precautionary measures in anticipation of the planned demonstration.
