Sowore was summoned by the police following his viral video accusing officers at a Lagos checkpoint of extortion. He faces multiple allegations, including resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, cyberstalking, and actions allegedly aimed at preventing arrests.

A letter from the Force Intelligence Department (FID) detailed the charges, stating:
“This office is investigating cases of resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, acts intended to cause grievous harm or prevent arrest, compelling action by intimidation, reckless and negligent acts, refusal to assist public servants, and cyberstalking in which your name prominently featured.”

Sowore was directed to meet with the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the FID Complex in Abuja on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10 a.m.

In response to his invitation, the Take It Back Movement, a group associated with Sowore, shared a flier online calling for protests against police extortion. The flier, which gained traction on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), featured Sowore and the Inspector General of Police with the bold message, “Occupy Force Headquarters.”

By early Monday morning, roads leading to the Force Headquarters were cordoned off by officers equipped with anti-riot gear. These measures appeared to be a precaution against the planned protest.
