Historic Reunions: Freed Israelis Hug Loved Ones, UN And World Watch In Awe

On January 19, 2025, three Israeli female hostages freed by Hamas were joyfully reunited with their families in Israel. Residents of Copenhagen celebrated the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, while a devastated Gaza began to witness its first ceasefire phase.

One of the freed hostages, Aya, a displaced Gaza woman, expressed the relief she felt after a year of being trapped in conflict: “I feel alive again.” In Tel Aviv, a crowd of Israelis watched a live broadcast as the hostages were seen safely entering a Red Cross vehicle. The military later confirmed their reunions with their mothers.

The ceasefire agreement, which came into effect after a delay, included the release of 69 women and 21 teenage boys in exchange for the three freed Israeli hostages. The truce offers a chance for relief in Gaza, with humanitarian aid slated to flow into the region.
