More information has emerged about the attempted assassination of Guyana President Irfaan Ali at his official residence on Thursday morning.

The sole attacker, identified as Nigerian national Bethel Ikenna Chinezie, allegedly arrived at President Ali’s home at the State House around 7:30 a.m. and confronted the Presidential Guards, demanding, “I want the President,” according to News Room.

Senior Police sources have confirmed that Chinezie last worked at a Georgetown cleaning business. According to his employer, Chinezie did not appear to have any mental health issues.

When contacted by News Room, the company’s owner declined to comment, only stating that an investigation is underway.

Chinezie is accused of pulling out a knife and stabbing a Presidential Guard, Telon Perreira, several times on the neck and other parts of his body.

The attacker then disarmed a female rank of her gun, exited the guard hut, and began firing outside the compound on Carmichael Street.
