“I Won’t Support Fubara Again I My Political Life,” Wike Speaks On Rift With Rivers Governor
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Friday, declared that he would no longer support Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in his political journey.
During an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, Wike accused Governor Fubara of spreading falsehoods about him.
“I will never again support Fubara politically,” Wike stated. “It’s not about me. Many people worked hard to build a political structure. You wouldn’t have even ranked 50th. I sacrificed to speak to different groups, including the Ogonis, to gather support for you.”
He continued, “You’re now accusing me of demanding N50 billion or N100 billion. That’s false. I helped raise you up politically, and now I’m being painted as over-demanding.”
Speaking on political leadership, Wike underscored the importance of maintaining the political structure that helped Fubara rise to power. He emphasized that it’s unfair for Fubara to deny the platform that elevated him and expressed disappointment over the governor’s actions.
Wike clarified that his only request was for Fubara not to neglect the people who worked hard to support him, calling ingratitude a harmful trait.
Rivers State has been facing political tension due to the deteriorating relationship between Governor Fubara and Wike, once his political mentor and the former governor of the state. The rift deepened when 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, loyal to Wike, left the PDP for the APC and nearly impeached Fubara before President Bola Tinubu intervened, leading to an eight-point resolution.
