IG Pushes For Accreditation Of 42 Police Colleges Nationwide

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to upgrade and secure accreditation for 42 police colleges across the country as part of broader efforts to reform police education.

According to Ireporter Online, the police chief disclosed this during a high-level strategic meeting held at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, hosted by the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the initiative was described as a significant step toward strengthening police training institutions nationwide. The meeting also had in attendance former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and other key stakeholders, underscoring the national importance attached to the reform agenda.

Discussions at the meeting focused on improving infrastructure and fostering collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund to deliver modern facilities. Stakeholders also engaged with the National Universities Commission to conduct resource verification processes required for accreditation, with a timeline set for the Ogun State campus to commence full operations in the 2026 academic session.

The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professionalism, stressing that transforming police colleges is vital to building a modern, service-oriented institution. He added that integrating academic excellence with practical operational training would ensure officers are better equipped to tackle contemporary security challenges with integrity and competence.
