A Lagos resident has recounted a disturbing encounter with suspected petty thieves in the Igando area after narrowly escaping an attempted wig snatching. According to Ireporter Online, the woman said she was heading to a friend’s birthday celebration when the incident occurred.

She explained that she had just stepped off a bus to board a motorcycle when an unknown individual suddenly yanked her wig from behind. The unexpected force, she said, left her shaken as she tried to process what was happening.

“Guys, I’m just coming back. They almost stole my wig today at Igando. My friend is having her birthday party and I went there. I came down from the bus to take a bike. That’s how they drew the wig. The person drew it from the back. Guys, I’m shocked, I confess,” she said.

Her account has generated widespread reactions online, with many Lagos residents expressing concern about the rising trend of petty theft across the city, especially during the festive period. Several commenters warned women to be extra vigilant as items such as wigs, jewellery, and other easily snatched accessories have increasingly become targets for thieves in crowded areas.

Social media users also shared their frustrations, noting that such crimes reflect broader security concerns in parts of the state. Others advised commuters, particularly women, to ensure their valuables are well-secured as opportunistic thieves often strike in busy public spaces.

With the holiday season approaching, many residents fear that incidents of petty theft may continue to rise, urging authorities and the public to heighten vigilance to prevent similar occurrences.
