Impeach Gbajabiamila, Youth Group Tells Representatives

The Oduduwa Youths Forum, a group of youths from the South-West, criticized House of Representatives members on Friday for voting against the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recently implemented new cash withdrawal limitations.

They also called for the impeachment of House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

The apex bank had limited over-the-counter cash withdrawals by individuals and organizations to N100,000 and N500,000 per week, respectively, in a memo signed by the Director (Banking Supervision), Haruna Mustafa.

The CBN also restricted cash withdrawals from point-of-sale machines and automated teller machines to N20,000 per day and N100,000 per week.

During a plenary session on Thursday, the House of Representatives directed the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to suspend the policy’s implementation.

However, Ade Balogun, the leader of the OYF, called the House resolution “baseless and illegal.”

Balogun also chastised Gbajabiamila for opposing a policy initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He said, “As youths from the South West, we are disowning Gbajabiamila, over the unpopular resolution of the House of Representatives on the new cash limit under his leadership.

“The resolution is not only baseless but also illegal. Let Gbajabiamila and his allies in this infamous journey know that their resolution against the cash withdrawal limit is an act of legislative rascality that can not stand.

“We urge loyalists of President Muhammadu Buhari in the House of Representatives not to waste time in moving against Gbajabiamila.
