Betty Akeredolu, the widow of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of exploiting her husband’s legacy for financial gain.

Reports from Naija News reveal that the Ondo state government had planned a lecture in Akure on Friday to mark the first anniversary of Akeredolu’s death, which occurred on December 27, 2023. The event was to feature renowned lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) as the guest speaker, with Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa chairing the Akeredolu Leadership Lecture Series.

However, Betty Akeredolu took to her X handle on Wednesday to publicly distance herself and her family from the memorial lecture. She accused Aiyedatiwa of organizing the event without consulting Akeredolu’s family and called it a move to profit from her late husband’s name.

In a scathing post titled, “Re: Purported Aketi lecture by Ondo Lucky can’t be serious!”, Betty expressed her outrage, saying, “Which legacy? Lecture, my foot! This is not for Aketi because my family and I were not involved. Damn it! You and your allies cannot take advantage of Aketi’s legacy in his absence. You can’t outdo the bereaved. This is a devious campaign taken too far!”

She continued, “Anybody close to Aketi or his wife becomes your enemy. Your associates are too frightened to get close, for fear of losing their positions. Now, you want to pretend by organizing a meaningless lecture as a way to profit off Aketi’s name. If this isn’t #Yahoo or a #419 lecture, then tell me what it is!”
