Afrobeats star Joeboy has expressed concern over the increasing difficulties faced by emerging musicians seeking to break into the mainstream music industry.

According to Ireporter Online, the singer made the remarks during a recent conversation on the Jay On Air programme, where he reflected on how the pathway to recognition in the industry has become significantly more demanding in recent years.

Joeboy noted that the growing influence of digital platforms has altered the dynamics of the music business, explaining that artists now need more than just talent and effective branding to stand out. He stated that musicians must also cultivate a strong online presence and actively promote their work on platforms such as TikTok to capture public attention.

The singer further observed that the evolving structure of the industry has forced upcoming artists to combine music creation with constant digital engagement in order to remain competitive and visible.

Speaking on the matter, Joeboy said he sympathises with aspiring artists attempting to go mainstream today, stressing that the process now requires far more effort than it did in the past. He explained that beyond producing quality music and having solid marketing support, artists are increasingly expected to maintain an engaging public persona and remain consistently visible to audiences.

He added that in previous years, a combination of good music, a strong brand, and effective promotion often provided a higher chance of success, but the current landscape demands significantly more from new entrants into the industry.
