JUST IN: APC Seeks Out-Of-Court Settlement For FG, CBN Face-off With Governors Over Cash Swap (DETAILS)

Ahead of the resumption of the Supreme Court suit filed by the governors of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara states against the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cash swap policy on Wednesday, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday brokered a truce between them and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

At a meeting with Governors elected on its platform on Sunday, the party urged the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria to follow the Supreme Court’s decision on the policy.

According to sources at Muhammadu Buhari House, the party’s national headquarters, the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, invited the three governors and Attorney General Abubakar Malami to a meeting to find an out-of-court settlement to the legal squabble before the next hearing of the suit.

Malami drove straight to the party secretariat after arriving from Ethiopia, where he was later joined by Governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Yayaha Bello (Kogi), and Matawalle Bello (Zamafara).

The meeting was also attended by the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Kebbi Governor, Atiku Bagudu, and former Zamafara Governor, Abdulaziz Yari.

The meeting, which lasted nearly two hours, was also attended by Senator Abubakar Kyari, Deputy National Chairman (North), Chief Emma Eneukwu, and Otunba Iyiola Omisore, National Secretary.

Attempts by journalists to obtain reactions following the meeting were unsuccessful because Adamu, who led the Governors and the Minister out of his office, barred journalists from asking questions.

The chairman simply said: “Newsmen, you are here again. We are on tbe same page. You can go” and led the governors to their cars.

Attempts to obtain Atiku’s comment also failed because he kept his lips sealed.

On Sunday, the party backed the governors’ position and urged the federal government and the central bank to follow the Supreme Court’s order.
