Kano State To Provide Free Housing And 220,000 Desks For Students In Wake Of Flooding

The Kano State Government has announced a comprehensive plan to provide free housing for flood victims across the state and improve learning conditions by distributing desks and chairs to 220,000 students.

Governor Abba Yusuf announced this during the weekly Executive Council meeting at the Government House on Wednesday. He explained that the housing project would target flood victims in all 44 local government areas, offering them safe and affordable homes.

“The provision of these houses will significantly help flood victims secure suitable shelter for their families,” said the governor.

He emphasized that the state’s efforts aim to mitigate the impact of flooding, which has displaced many families.

Governor Yusuf also revealed that the state government is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to provide further relief to flood victims.

“We are committed to supporting them with food and other essential supplies as they navigate this challenging time,” he added.

In addition to the housing initiative, the governor outlined plans to improve the educational environment for primary and secondary school students. The first phase will see the distribution of desks and chairs to 220,000 students.

“This is part of our broader effort to enhance the learning and teaching environment in our schools,” Governor Yusuf stated.

With the 2024/2025 academic session already underway in some rehabilitated schools, Governor Yusuf reassured citizens that the government remains focused on rehabilitating all schools in the state. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to providing free school uniforms to all Primary 1 pupils, in line with the declaration of emergency on education.

Governor Yusuf urged all stakeholders in the education sector to work together to achieve the state’s educational goals.

“We must collaborate to ensure the success of these initiatives. Our children’s education is a priority, and we will continue to invest in their future,” he said.

Commending the Executive Council members for their dedication, Governor Yusuf encouraged them to remain focused on their duties, despite efforts by detractors to slow the state’s progress.

“Your contributions are invaluable, and we must not be deterred by those who seek to undermine our achievements,” he said.
