Labour Party National Chairman Allegedly Planning To Suspend Peter Obi

Oluchi Opara, the embattled national treasurer of the Labour Party, has accused the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, of planning to suspend former presidential candidate Peter Obi. Opara made this allegation in an interview with Ireporteronline, asserting that her six-month suspension from the party over corruption allegations against Abure was unjustified.

Opara challenged Abure to address the corruption allegations against him instead of hastily resorting to suspending her. She claimed that Peter Obi’s call for a thorough investigation into the party’s accounts is the reason Abure is considering suspending him.

According to Opara, Abure’s motive behind the suspension is to cover up alleged corruption within the party. She urged Abure to refute the corruption allegations against him directly instead of trying to silence dissent within the party.

Opara also mentioned that she has taken legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the party’s accounts thoroughly. She emphasized that Peter Obi’s commitment to a transparent investigation into the accounts is why Abure is targeting him for suspension.

Furthermore, Opara accused Abure of attempting to manipulate state chairmen within the party to support his agenda, threatening them with the loss of their positions if they do not comply. She asserted that the allegations against Abure are serious and cannot be ignored, and she vowed to continue fighting for accountability within the party.

The allegations and counter-allegations within the Labour Party highlight the internal strife and challenges faced by the party leadership, particularly regarding issues of transparency and accountability.
