List Of Ministries Tinubu Divided And The Ministers Appointed To Head Them

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has allocated roles to the 45 ministers whose confirmations were finalized by the Senate recently.

The list of assigned responsibilities, disclosed by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, indicates both the splitting of certain ministries and the establishment of new ones.

In addition, some ministries have been entrusted with additional duties and designations.

As an example, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources has been divided, with Ekperipe Ekpo now serving as Minister of State for Gas Resources and Heineken Lokpobiri appointed as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources. The role of senior Minister of Petroleum, which President Tinubu might hold, remains uncertain, as his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, managed the ministry during his eight-year tenure.

Other ministries that have been divided include Finance, Budget, and National Planning, as well as Works and Housing. Wale Edun has been named Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Atiku Bagudu is now the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning. David Umahi and Ahmed M. Dangiwa are now substantive ministers for Works and Housing & Urban Development respectively, and Abdullahi T. Gwarzo has been appointed Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development.

The former Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has also been split into two, with John Enoh serving as Minister of Sports Development and Abubakar Momoh as Minister of Youth.

Nyesom Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and leader of the G5 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, who supported President Tinubu’s victory, has been designated Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Surprisingly, Dele Alake, previously the Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State under Governor Tinubu, was appointed to oversee the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, contrary to expectations that he would head the Ministry of Information.

Among the newly created ministries, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo will lead the Marine and Blue Economy ministry, while Lola Ade-John has been appointed to oversee Tourism.

Certain appointees have seen their responsibilities expanded with additional appellations. For instance, Ali Pate is now the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa is the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, and Bosun Tijani takes on the role of Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. Other ministerial tasks have also been augmented with added titles.

A swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed ministers is scheduled for Monday, August 21, 2023, at the State House Conference Centre in Aso Villa, Abuja, at 10:00 am.
