El-Rufai, a strong supporter of Tinubu’s presidential ambition, along with two other ministerial nominees, Stella Okotete from Delta State and Sani A Danladi from Taraba State, were not confirmed by the Senate on Monday.
According to a report from Premium Times, sources within the Presidency stated that El-Rufai has informed President Tinubu that he no longer considers his nomination for a ministerial position. He assured Tinubu that he will continue to contribute to national development as a private citizen. The report suggests that El-Rufai recommended Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, who previously served as a commissioner in Kaduna State, to be his replacement.
The report also stated that El-Rufai told Tinubu that he needs time to focus on his doctorate program in The Netherlands and believes Sani would be valuable to the government.
President Tinubu reportedly requested time to review the situation and the Security Service (SSS) report before making a decision.
The spokesman for El-Rufai, Muyiwa Adekeye, has not commented on the matter.
During his Senate screening, El-Rufai mentioned that Tinubu had specifically asked him to work on addressing the power problems in the country.
The Senate confirmed 45 other ministerial nominees, including those from various states such as Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, Sokoto, Zamfara, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Benue, FCT, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Niger.
The confirmation process has included those with backgrounds in politics, governance, and various fields of expertise.
