At the launch event, Qatar Charity’s Country Director, Hamdi Abdou, shared the vision behind the initiative, stating, “As part of our global campaign, ‘Making a Smile,’ Qatar Charity has already conducted cleft lip surgeries in countries like Pakistan, Somalia, and Ghana. We are now proud to extend this life-transforming effort to Nigeria, where we will provide free surgeries to 200 children in need.”

Abdou emphasized that these surgeries go beyond just medical treatment; they are about restoring dignity and hope to families and communities. “Our initiative aims to offer these children a new lease on life,” he added.

Qatar Charity’s efforts in Nigeria extend far beyond cleft lip surgeries. The organization has also been instrumental in providing eye cataract surgeries, building medical facilities, supplying essential medications, and supporting heart surgeries. These impactful contributions are made possible through the leadership of Qatar Charity-Nigeria and the guidance of Qatar’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Ali bo Cihanem Al Hajri.

Professor Abdurahman Abba Sheshe, the Chief Medical Director of AKTH, announced that the surgeries will be conducted over the next three months, with all costs—including feeding and medication—fully covered. The hospital’s partnership with Qatar Charity reflects a shared commitment to improving the lives of those in need.

This initiative is a beacon of hope for many children and their families, bringing both immediate relief and long-term positive change to communities across Nigeria.
