MTN Uncovers Shocking Rise In Kids’ Internet Use, Demands Swift Measures To Secure Digital Spaces

In a bid to address the critical issue of online safety for children, MTN Nigeria has launched the ‘Let Children Be Children’ report, shedding light on the concerning trend of Internet access among Nigerian youth. According to the report, a staggering 70% of children between the ages of six and twelve are now online, revealing both opportunities for learning and social interaction, as well as significant risks.

While the Internet offers potential benefits for children, such as educational resources and communication, it also exposes them to dangers like cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and online predators. The report highlights that many children are unaware of essential online safety practices, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation.

MTN’s response to this alarming trend involves a comprehensive strategy to raise awareness among children, parents, and educators. The company plans to roll out educational workshops and seminars, aiming to equip stakeholders with the knowledge necessary to navigate the digital world safely.

In addition to education, MTN is calling for stronger regulatory frameworks to protect children from online threats. The report advocates for a collaborative effort between government bodies, NGOs, and technology companies to create a protective ecosystem that prioritizes child safety in the digital landscape.

MTN’s commitment to safeguarding children online is reinforced by ongoing community outreach programs. The company believes that by educating parents and guardians on the risks children face online, they can better protect them from potential harm.

According to Tobe Okigbo, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Corporate Services & Sustainability Officer, the launch of this report underscores the company’s dedication to ensuring that every child has a safe and protected digital experience. He emphasized that MTN’s corporate responsibility includes leveraging technology to promote child safety and combat online abuse.

With this report, MTN Nigeria continues to lead the charge in raising awareness about online safety for children, fostering a more secure digital environment for the younger generation in Nigeria.
