Akintola acknowledged the investigative journalism by Umar Audu, a journalist with Daily Nigeria newspaper, who uncovered instances of obtaining degrees within six weeks from universities in Benin Republic. MURIC applauded the government for taking action against fraudulent certificates, emphasizing the potential dangers such fake credentials pose to the Nigerian populace and the quality of public service.
The organization urged federal and state education ministries to scrutinize holders of such certificates, advocating for the removal of those found to have been employed with them. MURIC called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute individuals involved in fraudulent admissions within Nigeria, particularly those linked to the fake tertiary institutions in Benin and Togo.
Furthermore, MURIC demanded an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the clearance letter issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, confirming the accreditation of the implicated university (ESGT) on the ministry’s list. The organization called on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to take necessary actions against the 51 fake graduates from ESGT serving illegally, emphasizing the need for their immediate removal from the scheme.
MURIC advised innocent Nigerians who may have unwittingly obtained such certificates to rectify the anomaly by seeking authentic university admissions within or outside the country. The organization concluded by commending Umar Audu for his investigative efforts, praising his commitment to exposing educational fraud and urging his colleagues in the Fourth Estate of the Realm to emulate his dedication.
