Naira Redesign: ’13 Political Parties’ Threaten To Withdraw From 2023 Elections

Over the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira redesign policy, Nigerian political parties have threatened to withdraw from the 2023 general elections.

Kenneth Udeze, National Chairman of the Action Alliance, stated at a briefing by a coalition of political party chairmen in Abuja that if the CBN extends its February 10 deadline, 13 out of 18 registered political parties will withdraw from the February 25 and March 11 general elections.

He did not reveal the identities of the 13 political parties.

Udeze stated that the parties will not participate in the elections if the new deadline of February 10, 2023 is pushed back as some All Progressives Congress governors have demanded (APC).

“We hereby announce that at least 13 out of the 18 political parties in Nigeria will not be interested in the 2023 general elections and indeed we shall withdraw our participation from the electoral process if this currency policies are suspended or cancelled or if the deadline is further shifted.”

He stated that the 13 parties condemn the governments of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara for petitioning the Supreme Court for an injunction to extend the deadline for the validity of three old notes.

He praised President Muhammadu Buhari for redesigned N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes.
