NDC Fixes Presidential Form At ₦60m, Announces Date For Primaries

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled its timetable for the 2027 general elections, announcing that individuals seeking the party’s presidential ticket will pay a total of ₦60 million for Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

According to a statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, the sale of forms will begin on May 13 and end on May 18 as part of preparations for the party’s internal electoral process.

The party stated that all aspirants are expected to participate in screening exercises and present relevant credentials and supporting documents. It explained that the sale of nomination forms will continue from May 21 to May 23, while completed forms must be submitted no later than May 25.

The statement noted that appeals arising from the screening exercise will be considered on May 25 and 26.

The NDC further announced that primary elections for various elective positions will take place on May 27 and 28, while the presidential primary has been scheduled for May 29 in Abuja.

Cleopas disclosed that aspirants for state Houses of Assembly will be screened in their respective states, while those contesting for National Assembly and the presidency will undergo screening at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

He added that all aspirants will be required to sign an undertaking in line with the party’s code of conduct and operational guidelines.

The party also revealed that it will adopt the open secret ballot method for its primaries, describing the system as a mechanism designed to ensure fairness, credibility and internal democracy.

Under the approved fee structure, aspirants for state Houses of Assembly will pay ₦2.5 million, while House of Representatives hopefuls are expected to pay ₦6 million. Senate aspirants will pay ₦8 million, and governorship candidates will be required to purchase forms worth ₦30 million.

For the presidential race, aspirants will pay ₦20 million for the Expression of Interest form and ₦40 million for the Nomination form, bringing the total cost to ₦60 million.

The NDC also introduced concessions for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities. Women will pay 50 percent of the prescribed fees, while persons living with disabilities will pay 25 percent across all categories.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent and credible primaries that will produce qualified candidates for the 2027 general elections.
