NDLEA Strikes Again: Cocaine, Tramadol Traffickers Caught Red-Handed At Lagos Airport

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted large consignments of cocaine and tramadol concealed in 71 vehicle side mirrors at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.

The drugs, intended for shipment to Libreville, Gabon, were discovered during routine checks, leading to the arrest of at least three suspects connected to the operation.

The NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed that the initial bust on Saturday, July 19, 2025, involved 57,420 pills of tramadol 225mg and 57 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.60kg.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, one of the key suspects, a cargo agent identified as Ihekweme Osinachi Benedict, was immediately apprehended. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of another individual, Uzochukwu Godspower Chukwurah, the following day.

A further raid on his residence yielded 11 more parcels of cocaine hidden in vehicle side mirrors, bringing the total to 68 parcels weighing 2.60kg.

In a related crackdown, the NDLEA arrested a businesswoman, Mrs. Nwafor Roseann Nneka, at her Trade Fair Complex shop in Lagos. This followed the earlier interception of lipsticks filled with 100 grams of cocaine and 300 grams of phenacetine, a cutting agent, destined for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, Nneka confessed to purchasing the lipsticks while her husband, currently at large, handled the drug concealment.

Additional operations across various states resulted in multiple arrests and significant seizures. In Abuja, three dispatch riders were caught with 149.8 grams of Canadian Loud, while others were nabbed on the Abaji-Gwagwalada highway with 91.1kg of skunk.

In Mushin, Lagos, 3.3kg of Colorado was recovered, and in Yaba, 16.5 litres of skuchies were seized.

Further raids in Benue, Edo, Borno, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Bayelsa, Kano, and Osun states netted thousands of tramadol capsules, skunk, methamphetamine, and codeine—indicating a coordinated effort by the NDLEA to dismantle drug networks across Nigeria.

The agency affirmed that its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign continues nationwide, through awareness programs in schools, religious centers, workplaces, and communities to combat the scourge of substance abuse.
