New Era Begins In Ibadanland As Olubadan Ladoja Approves Major Chiefly Promotions

According to Ireporter Online, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, is set to promote six High and Senior Chiefs on the Otun Olubadan line this Friday, in accordance with the provisions of the Ibadan Chieftaincy Law.

The upcoming promotions follow vacancies created by Oba Ladoja’s ascension to the throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, a position he assumed after previously serving as the Otun Olubadan. Palace sources revealed that the exercise is part of the traditional succession structure aimed at preserving the hierarchy and stability within the Ibadan chieftaincy system.

Among those to be elevated are Oba Eddy Oyewole, Oba Kola Daisi, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Oba Adebayo Akande, Senior Chief Lekan Alabi, and Senior Chief Kola Babalola. Under the approved progression, Oba Eddy Oyewole will advance from Osi Olubadan to Otun Olubadan; Oba Hamidu Ajibade will rise from Ekerin Olubadan to Asipa Olubadan; Oba Adebayo Akande will move from Ekaarun Olubadan to Ekerin Olubadan; Senior Chief Lekan Alabi will be elevated from Maye Olubadan to Abese Olubadan, while Senior Chief Kola Babalola will be promoted from Abese Olubadan to Ekaarun Olubadan.

The promotion ceremony is scheduled to take place at the newly completed Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area. Palace insiders disclosed that this event will mark Oba Ladoja’s first traditional ceremony since his coronation on September 26, 2025.

The forthcoming elevations are regarded as a continuation of Ibadan’s long-standing rotational succession system, which ensures smooth leadership transitions within the Olubadan-in-Council. The ceremony, expected to draw distinguished indigenes and guests from across the nation, will symbolize both continuity and renewal in Ibadan’s revered traditional monarchy.
