acknowledged that while this endeavor might be challenging, it is both long overdue and achievable.

Daniel called for unity among the people of Remo and Ijebu, emphasizing that divisive tendencies could obstruct this longstanding aspiration.

The senator addressed stakeholders during a meeting at the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi. He shared that despite potential discouragement due to controversies surrounding state creation, he was inspired by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s courage in facing criticism while pursuing visionary policies.

“Our late sage, Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, encountered similar dilemmas but chose the path of conviction and honor. His policies, including free education and provision of clean water, were misunderstood initially but later proved transformative,” Daniel noted.

He also compared Awolowo’s leadership to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which, despite facing criticism, has implemented bold measures to revitalize the economy.

Highlighting his familial ties to both Remoland and Ijebuland, Daniel described himself as a bridge builder committed to achieving the shared prosperity that a new state could bring.

Stakeholders’ Resolutions

The Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Ajayi, lauded the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, for his unwavering support for state creation. He urged stakeholders to move past previous disagreements and foster unity, stating, “We must let bygones be bygones and work together in brotherhood.”

The royal father proposed forming seven-member committees for both the Remo and Ijebu divisions to collaborate on addressing lingering issues. Oba Sikiru Adetona, represented by the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, Oba Lawrence Adebajo, echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of unity in realizing their shared vision.

A communiqué, read by Barrister Bayo Onafuwa, outlined the committee’s responsibilities, including determining the name of the proposed state, selecting a capital, and defining local government structures. The committees are expected to submit their reports within a month.
