New Visa Rules For Nigerians: US Embassy Announces Major Changes Starting January 2025

during the application process.
The Embassy shared this update on its official X account, noting: “For interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, applicants will be required to visit the Consulate-General in Lagos twice during the immigrant visa procedure.”
This updated process aims to help applicants prepare for their visa interviews and minimize delays in processing their applications. According to the Embassy’s website, the first visit will be an “In-Person Document Review” with consular staff. This step ensures applicants have all necessary documents and are ready for the interview, preventing delays due to missing paperwork.
The second visit will be the actual visa interview with a Consular Officer, scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC). The Embassy cautioned that failure to complete the In-Person Document Review before the visa interview will necessitate rescheduling the appointment.
These changes are part of the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to streamline the process and reduce delays caused by incomplete documentation. Additionally, the Embassy announced a new visa services provider for its Abuja and Lagos consulates, which began on August 26, 2024.
This move is part of the U.S. Embassy’s broader initiative to enhance efficiency in the visa issuance process for Nigerian applicants.
