Nigeria Leads Africa’s Push For UN Security Council Reform, Advocates Fairness In Global Politics”

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Sweden, during the “Africa’s Momentum” panel discussion, Tuggar highlighted Africa’s exclusion from the Council despite the fact that around 60% of its resolutions concern African issues. He also criticized existing policies, such as the UN Council’s Deforestation Law, which he argued unfairly penalizes African nations while overlooking the role of global corporations that contribute to deforestation.

Tuggar also emphasized Nigeria’s non-aligned foreign policy and the nation’s strategic autonomy under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. He called for fairness in global governance and for Africa to have an active role in decision-making.

In the same statement, Tuggar discussed Nigeria’s historical contributions to African liberation struggles, including support for South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement. He also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s inclusion in the G20, citing the country’s significant economic size, large population, and global influence.
