Nigerian Government Begins Payment Of New Minimum Wage To Civil Servants
The Federal Government has commenced the payment of the new minimum wage to civil servants, starting on Thursday, September 26, 2024. This was confirmed by Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, during an interview with *Daily Post*. Mokwa assured that workers would begin receiving salary alerts reflecting the new minimum wage but did not confirm whether arrears would be included in the payments.
This development follows the approval of a new N70,000 minimum wage by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 18, 2024, which was subsequently passed into law by the Senate. The upward review of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) was also confirmed by Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission earlier in the week.
