Nigerian Government Failed My Generation- Lancelot RECOUNTS Childhood Experience As Nollywood Filmmaker Turns 50
Legendary Nollywood Filmmaker, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen has recounted how Nigeria leaders have failed his generation and coming generation in their efforts to take Nigeria to the “promised land.”
According to him, Nigeria started on a very sound note but along the line the country lost it, the Filmmaker attributed the lack of continuity and inconsistency on the part of the government as reasons for the colossal failure.
The Nollywood Icon made this disclosure in an interview granted as part of activities marking his 50th birthday celebrations coming up in June.
“You see my birthday celebration is centred on the State of the Nation, I feel pained that the ’60s and above have failed Nigerians, they have failed their generations and they are unfortunately planning to fail the generation yet unborn?
Lancelot recalled how Nigeria was bubbling in the ’60s and ’70s with the government providing free health services,free-feeding schemes for students, good scholarship programs and social welfare for its citizens, he regretted the deteriorating rate of decadence and waste prevalent in the nation today.
“Until I was twelve years old government almost provided all I needed, I was given books, never paid school fees and we were even fed in schools”
Lancelot is of the opinion that our founding fathers did not breed worthy successors hence the drought in genuine leadership in Nigeria today.
However, he said they would be resisted henceforth and one of the ways this can be accomplished is by concerted efforts in raising conscious minds to begin to fight back the excesses of these leaders, especially amongst the youths.
He harped on the need for positive mentorship by leaders and role models. Personally, he has vowed to commit his time and resources to give back to society, his birthday celebrations would reflect his selfless intentions in seeing to the betterment of society and Nigeria at large.
