Nigerian Governor Appoints 115 New Aides

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed 115 new aides to his government, expanding the total number of his aides to 196.

The appointments include Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Special Reporters. The latest appointments were announced by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sanusi Bature.

Among the new appointees, 14 will serve as Special Advisers, 57 as Senior Special Assistants, and 44 as Senior Special Reporters and Special Reporters, mainly social media activists.

This expansion in the number of aides follows earlier appointments made by the governor, totaling 81 individuals. The governor’s spokesman stated that the new appointments aim to provide access to information on government policies, programs, and activities.

The appointed Special Advisers will cover various portfolios, including policy and social development, industries, cyber security, grassroots mobilization, metropolitan affairs, and domestic affairs, among others.

Critics have raised concerns about the increasing number of political appointments and the associated costs of governance, questioning whether the resources could be better used to improve the lives of the citizens.

The governor’s office has defended the appointments, emphasizing the need for effective governance and access to information.
