Nigerian Man In Critical Condition After Failed Attempt To Assassinate Guyana President
After attempting to kill Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali, a Nigerian man and a police officer were taken by ambulance to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The Nigerian man, named as Bethel Ikenna Chimezie, who staged a daring knife and pistol attack on the Presidential Guards at the Guyana State House and was shot and injured, has been the subject of a request for additional information, the Guyana Police Force announced on Thursday, December 15.

According to reports, Chimezie, 35, had many surgeries to treat gunshot wounds to his head, torso, and leg that were sustained when Presidential Guards opened fire on him.
“The GPF has requested via INTERPOL a comprehensive background check on him; also whether he has any criminal history or whether he is linked to any criminal group,” a senior police officer told Demerara Waves Online News.
Earlier, police said that at about 7:30 am, the man entered State House’s south-eastern guard room and demanded to see the President.
He allegedly pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed a police officer in the neck and other places on the body.
Police claimed Chimezie also stole a handgun from a Presidential Guard before fleeing the guard room and opening fire on Carmichael Street. Seven spent 9MM shells and a 9MM pistol, according to the police, were found.
