Obaseki Criticizes Ighodalo: “Not a ‘Push-and-Start’ Candidate” Amid Rising Kano, Jigawa Flood Death Toll
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has sharply criticized his political rival, Ighodalo, labeling him as anything but a “push-and-start” candidate. Obaseki emphasized that the governance of Edo State demands someone with deep-rooted experience and competence, suggesting that Ighodalo lacks the qualities necessary to lead the state effectively.
Obaseki’s statement comes at a critical time when the state gears up for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections. While Ighodalo has continued to project himself as a candidate of the people, Obaseki questioned his ability to navigate the complex landscape of Edo’s socio-political challenges. “The state deserves more than someone who’s just going to be a push-and-start leader,” Obaseki remarked, underscoring the need for a solid leadership track record.
Meanwhile, in Kano and Jigawa, the humanitarian crisis worsens as devastating floods have claimed the lives of 68 people. The natural disaster has left several communities submerged, with families displaced and farmlands destroyed. Local authorities have mobilized rescue efforts, but the scale of the disaster has stretched resources thin.
Experts are urging for more proactive measures from both state and federal governments to mitigate future occurrences of such tragedies. With climate change accelerating extreme weather patterns, floods in northern Nigeria have become more frequent and deadlier, putting countless lives and livelihoods at risk.
As the political landscape heats up with election campaigns, and the flood-ravaged communities cry for help, the dual challenges of leadership and climate adaptation remain at the forefront of public discourse.
