Obaseki Sets Condition For PDP To Sign Edo Guber Peace Accord

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has stated that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will sign a peace accord only if the arrested members of the party are released. Obaseki made this declaration after a caucus meeting held at the Government House in Benin on Monday.

He explained that granting bail to the detained PDP members would enable them to return to their families and actively participate in the ongoing democratic process. The governor expressed hope that the courts, resuming on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, would release the detained individuals, facilitating the party’s decision to sign the peace accord.

Obaseki also praised the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for their commitment to ensuring a free and fair election in the state. He emphasized the importance of security and urged PDP leaders to continue mobilizing support for their candidate ahead of the upcoming election on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
