Ohanaeze Faction Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid, Hails South-East Development Projects
A faction of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election campaign, citing unprecedented federal investments in South-East infrastructure. In a statement issued Friday, the group’s Deputy National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, declared the region’s support would extend “until 2031” based on current development commitments.
The endorsement highlights several landmark projects including:
-
₦1.43 trillion allocated for federal road construction/rehabilitation
-
$3 billion Eastern Economic Corridor railway modernization
-
Establishment of South-East Development Commission
-
Creation of South-East Investment Company
“This represents the most significant federal commitment to our region since the Civil War,” Isiguzoro stated, noting these initiatives could transform the zone into West Africa’s new economic hub. The group particularly praised Works Minister Dave Umahi’s role in coordinating stakeholder engagement.
The statement condemned alleged opposition-sponsored media attacks against Umahi, warning such actions undermine regional progress. “We urge all Igbo groups to unite behind these transformative projects rather than engage in divisive politics
