As APC party leaders may settle for him as their Consensus Candidate

There is palpable fear within the ranks of PDP leaders in Orhionmwon Local government area over Hon. Etiosa Ogbewi declaration yesterday to retun back to the house of Assembly under the platform of APC.

In an interaction with many of the leaders of PDP in the locality, they all express their concern that if APC settles for Etiosa, it will be an impossibility for them to win that election because of the grassroot popularity, influence and connetion of Ogbewi. That with Etiosa,APC will beat them mercilessly because he is too much on ground and knows the terrain very well.

They further stated that what such arrangement means is that Urhonigbe South and Urhonigbe North is already in the bag for APC even if they don’t campaign as PDP may not even get a single votes from that area because of past election realities. That even APC does not even campaign in the other four wards, Etiosa will still win because he has the grassroot supports beyond those two wards.

One of the PDP leaders who spoke in anonymity said if APC give tickets to Etiosa, none of the PDP aspirant wil bother to waste their money as they will totally foreclose any victory, but what they need to do now is to pray APC should not give him ticket.

They also said Etiosa is a fighter who will give them a hard time. The leaders further said that in the last governorship election, Etiosa with some leaders from the two Urhonigbe brought out votes that neutralized their votes from other wards and only God knows what what will happen to them if Etiosa is now a flag bearer.

While leaders of PDP are expressing their concerns, some APC leaders who spoke to us on the ground of anonymity said Etiosa has come to alter the equation and calculation of the party leaders because apart from the fact that he has paid his dues, he is basically the only aspirant who can easily win election for them without any stress.

They said it may not be easy for them to tell the other aspirants to step down for him, but they will engage all of them to see how the option of Etiosa Ogbewi being a consensus candidate can be actualized, but if that didn’t work they will have no other option than to tell all of them to the field ,but the reality is that even as today despite Etiosa just declared, he already has three ward out of the six wards overwhelmingly supporting him and even if he does win the other three wards, the other aspirants will share the three wards. Hence, it will be better to guide them on the path of consensuship around Etiosa instead of allowing them to waste more money.

Apart from capacity to win election, they also express the fact that out of all the aspirants, Etiosa is the only one who has the contents, vibrancy,intelligence, capacity and boldness to give them a strong voice in the house , that being a former member just like Hon. Frank Okiye, he may have the opportunity of becoming the speaker which will be a big achievement for Orhionmwon having been denied the governor opportunity.

However, the only concern many of the APC leaders from our interaction raised is the fact that Etiosa does not have the money to fund the election, but our secret investigation reveals that he has the backings of some individuals both home and in diaspora who are ready to spend any amount of money if it becomes necessary to get Etiosa elected as this was evidenced in his declaration yesterday; he actually shocked many people who thought he has no money in his declaration yesterday.
