₦1tr Kaduna Light Rail Project Set To Begin In Two Months

Construction work on the long-awaited Kaduna Light Rail Project, estimated to cost over ₦1 trillion, is expected to commence within the next two months, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has announced.

According to Ireporter Online, the governor disclosed this during the flag-off ceremony of 11 road projects across Zaria and Sabon Gari Local Government Areas of the state.

Sani revealed that contractors had already been mobilised for the mass transit project, describing it as a major development that would transform transportation and strengthen Kaduna State’s economic growth.

The governor noted that Kaduna and Lagos are the only states selected by the Federal Government to benefit from the light rail initiative, adding that the project would become a major boost for public transportation when completed.

He credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for playing a key role in supporting infrastructure development across Kaduna State, describing the Federal Government’s interventions as a major factor behind the state’s ongoing transformation.

“The ₦1 trillion Light Rail Project will commence in the next two months. The contractors have already been mobilised,” Sani stated.

The governor also announced that another major federal project, the Mando-Birnin Gwari Road, would begin within one week, adding that the Federal Government had approved ₦100 billion for the project.

Sani attributed the increasing number of federal projects in Kaduna to the strong relationship between his administration and the Federal Government, as well as the support of residents of the state.

He said the Tinubu administration had continued to demonstrate commitment to Kaduna’s development through strategic investments in infrastructure and other key sectors.

The governor also assured residents that the 11 newly launched road projects would be completed and inaugurated within five months as part of his administration’s Urban Renewal and Rural Transformation Programme.

He explained that the projects were designed to improve connectivity, expand economic opportunities and enhance the quality of life for residents, stressing that roads play a vital role in linking communities, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities and markets.

Speaking at the event, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, praised President Tinubu for what he described as significant contributions to Kaduna State, particularly in the education sector.

Abbas noted that Kaduna had previously had only one federal university, established in 1963 by the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, until recent developments under the current administration.

He highlighted the upgrade of the Federal College of Education in Zaria to a Federal University of Education, saying the move had increased the number of federal universities within the Zaria metropolis.
