Osimhen May Undergo Surgery Following Arm Fracture In Galatasaray’s Loss To Liverpool
Victor Osimhen faces an anxious wait over a potential operation after sustaining a fractured arm during Galatasaray’s heavy Champions League defeat to Liverpool FC at Anfield. The Nigerian forward was forced off at half-time following an early injury in Wednesday night’s Round of 16 second-leg clash, which ended in a 4-0 loss for the Turkish side, eliminating them 4-1 on aggregate.
According to club officials, Osimhen suffered a blow to his arm after a challenge from Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté but continued playing until the interval. Medical checks at halftime revealed the risk of a fracture, prompting his substitution. Subsequent hospital examinations confirmed a fracture in his right forearm, and a cast has been applied. The club stated that a decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days after further evaluations.
Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk acknowledged that the club attempted to keep Osimhen on the field despite his injury but ultimately had to withdraw him due to increasing pain. Buruk also criticized the officiating, suggesting that Konaté was able to commit fouls too freely during the match.
Reflecting on the defeat, Buruk conceded that Liverpool outperformed his side. He noted that a combination of unfortunate events, including Osimhen’s early injury, contributed to their inability to impose themselves during the game.
