PDP’s Revival Impossible With Wike Still in Party, Says Eastern Union Leader

Political tensions within Nigeria’s opposition ranks took center stage as Hon. Charles Anike, National President of the Eastern Union, declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) incapable of resurgence while Nyesom Wike remains a member. In an exclusive interview, the political activist asserted that the former Rivers State governor serves as a ruling party mole, deliberately sabotaging opposition efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.

Anike leveled scathing criticism against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s political ambitions, describing his potential ADC coalition candidacy as a recipe for opposition fragmentation. “Atiku’s presidential obsession has become Nigeria’s political curse,” Anike stated, recalling how the former VP’s maneuvers allegedly contributed to PDP’s 2015 downfall. The Eastern Union leader warned that any coalition featuring Atiku would merely split opposition votes to President Tinubu’s advantage.

The interview revealed deep concerns about regional marginalization, with Anike accusing the Tinubu administration of systematically diverting Niger Delta resources to develop Southwestern states while neglecting the Eastern region in appointments and infrastructure. He characterized current constitutional amendment efforts as futile, joining The Patriots’ call for a completely new constitution drafted through transparent public participation rather than legislative tinkering.

Regarding PDP’s revival prospects, Anike drew parallels between Wike’s current role and Ali Modu Sheriff’s controversial PDP chairmanship, urging party leaders to muster the same decisive action that ousted Sheriff. However, he acknowledged the challenge posed by perceived executive influence over judiciary decisions. The Eastern Union president dismissed suggestions that Atiku could inherit Buhari’s northern political capital, citing widespread distrust of the former VP’s consistency and alleged history of compromise.
