Police Bans Protests Amid Tension Over Tribunal Judgement
The Kano State police command has issued a prohibition on all street demonstrations within the northwestern state, coinciding with the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal’s session for the presentation of written arguments.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner of Police for the region, Husaini Gumel, at the state’s headquarters on Monday.
Gumel cited intelligence reports indicating that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were preparing to organize street protests in response to the ongoing tribunal proceedings.
