Police Hold Officers Responsible For Accidental Shooting In Lagos

Several officers of the Lagos State Police Command have been arrested following an alleged accidental shooting that left two passersby dead in the Alagbado area on Friday. According to Ireporter Online, the officers were reportedly pursuing suspected internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “Yahoo boys,” when gunshots were discharged during the operation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident on , stating that the Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, had ordered a full-scale investigation. “The officers involved in the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred today in Alagbado have been arrested and taken into custody,” she said. Adebisi further added that the CP directed the adequate deployment of personnel to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the area.

According to the command, normalcy has since been restored, and residents were assured that justice would be served with the outcome of the investigation made public. An eyewitness on claimed that the officers, said to be attached to the AIT Division Police Station, were conducting stop-and-search duties at the time and allegedly fled immediately after the shooting, leaving the victims unattended.

The circumstances surrounding the discharge of the firearm, including whether operational protocols were followed, remain unclear as investigations continue. The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Lagos State, following a series of cult-related clashes in areas such as Iyana-Ipaja, Aboru, Badore, Olokonla, Onipanu, and Satellite Town. At least four people have reportedly been killed in these clashes, with several others sustaining injuries.

The police command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and urged residents to remain calm while the investigation is ongoing.
