Political Earthquake: Kano Commissioner Walks Away, Says ‘I Took No Bribe’
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Namadi Dala, has tendered his resignation after a government-appointed committee investigated allegations that he collected a $30,000 bribe to stand surety for a suspected drug dealer.
The embattled commissioner firmly denied any wrongdoing, insisting that his actions were guided solely by legal considerations and not by financial or political influence.
Speaking to journalists in Kano, Dala explained that his decision to stand surety was based on the merits of the case. “I took the decision to resign since the incident occurred and saw publications questioning my integrity,” he said, adding that multiple security agencies had dismissed the bribery allegations due to lack of evidence.
He further clarified that he had no personal or business ties with the accused individual.
The official investigation, formally presented to Governor Abba Yusuf by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, also concluded there was no financial inducement and no N5 million bail deposit as previously alleged.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the report confirmed Dala’s voluntary application to act as surety and found that he had no prior relationship with the defendant.
However, the panel faulted him for breaching state policy, which takes a firm stand against drug trafficking, abuse, and youth-related criminality.
Dala said his resignation was necessary to protect both the integrity of the government and the state’s anti-drug fight. He expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve, pledging his continued support to the administration’s reforms.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, this development has sparked political ripples in Kano, with analysts noting that while Dala may have been cleared of bribery, the moral and political implications of the incident weighed heavily in his decision to step down.
