Political Earthquake: Plateau Governor Finalises Move To APC After Meeting Tinubu
According to Ireporter Online, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to expand its control to 26 states as Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang concludes plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections. His planned defection comes amid reports that Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas is already being regarded as part of the APC, pending his formal welcome into the ruling party.
A senior member of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) disclosed that Governor Mutfwang has finalized arrangements to join the APC and recently met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to cement the decision. The official revealed that the governor, who emerged from a factionalised PDP, reached out to the APC National Chairman last week to formally express his intention to exit the opposition party.
“The governor, who had consistently pledged loyalty to the PDP, has now made up his mind. He notified the chairman last Tuesday, and the chairman took him to meet the president on Sunday,” the NWC source told journalists.
Following the notification, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda—who contested against Mutfwang in the last gubernatorial election—arranged the governor’s visit to the Presidential Villa for further discussions.
Sources confirmed that the Plateau governor’s entry into the APC will happen soon, dismissing earlier rumours that Prof. Yilwatda was opposed to the defection.
The party official also revealed that Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State is already being regarded as part of the APC’s expanding fold, raising the party’s effective number of governors to 26.
“Kefas is already counted among APC governors. His formal reception was only postponed out of respect for national sentiment at the time,” the source added.
