Putin Reveals What Was Found In Bodies Of Prigozhin Plane Crash Victims

President Vladimir Putin disclosed on Thursday that traces of explosives were found in the remains of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner mercenary group, and his crew after their plane crashed in Russia in August.

Prigozhin’s plane went down between Moscow and Saint Petersburg, two months after he led a brief mutiny against Russia’s top military officials. The incident has sparked suggestions of foul play from Kremlin critics and Western nations.

These remarks by Putin mark a significant update on Russia’s investigation into the crash. He stated, “Fragments of hand grenades were found in the bodies of the victims of the air disaster. There was no external impact on the plane.”

Russian investigators are exploring all potential scenarios surrounding the crash, including the possibility of premeditated murder.

Putin criticized investigators for not conducting alcohol and drug tests on Prigozhin and the other nine victims of the crash. He also alleged that five kilograms of cocaine were discovered at the Wagner offices after the group’s short-lived rebellion.

“A blood test for alcohol was not done,” Putin stated. “Even though we know that after the famous events in the (Wagner) company in Saint Petersburg, the FSB (security service) found not only 10 billion in cash, but also five kilograms of cocaine.”

In June, Prigozhin led an armed rebellion against Moscow’s military leadership, posing the most significant threat to Putin’s two-decade rule. Following the crash, Putin described him as a man who had made “serious mistakes in his life but he achieved the right results.”

The Kremlin has dismissed suggestions that it engineered the crash as retribution for Wagner’s march on Moscow. Russia has a history of mysterious deaths of Kremlin opponents during Putin’s tenure.
