Resilience Prevails: Troops Liberate Kidnap Victims, Confront Armed Bandits In Northwestern States

A triumphant air hangs over the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD), as its valiant troops continue to achieve remarkable successes. In a series of daring operations across Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Katsina States, the troops have not only rescued five kidnapped victims but have also dealt a resounding blow to armed banditry, recovering arms, ammunition, and disrupting criminal activities.

The Nigerian Army, in a statement released on August 7, 2023, illuminated the remarkable feats accomplished by these troops, highlighting their commitment to restoring safety and security in the Northwestern region. Among these victories, the apprehension of a suspected bandit operating in Sokoto’s Gigane District stands out, demonstrating a resolute step towards quelling terror.

A recent episode unfolded on the Tsafe-Gusau highway in Zamfara State, where armed bandits had kidnapped innocent civilians. Rapid response by Sector 1 OPHD forces thwarted the bandits’ intentions. With unwavering resolve and tactical prowess, the troops engaged in a gunfight, compelling the bandits to retreat, leaving their victims unharmed and liberated.

In the neighboring Kebbi State, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garin Hausawa exhibited extraordinary dedication. Upon receiving information about the presence of armed bandits in Madobiya village, the troops took decisive action, prompting the criminals to abandon their hostages and flee. The result was the triumphant rescue of three kidnapped victims, whose safe return brought solace to their families.

Sokoto State also bore witness to the troops’ valorous efforts. During a routine patrol, Special Forces engaged armed bandits in Gundumi Village, resulting in the neutralization of one bandit and the dispersal of others. This engagement not only underscored the troops’ mettle but also yielded a cache of arms, including an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.

Undeterred by the perilousness of their missions, the troops of Sector 3 in Sokoto State boldly confronted bandits who had infiltrated Manu Village. A fierce firefight ensued, with the gallant troops standing their ground and compelling the bandits to scatter. This display of courage yielded valuable equipment, providing a testament to the troops’ determination to secure the region.

Forward Operating Base Raka showcased the power of intelligence-driven actions. Acting on credible information, troops apprehended a suspected bandit in Sokoto’s Gigane District. Preliminary investigations indicated the suspect’s involvement in terrorizing the community, underlining the importance of these decisive interventions.

Katsina State bore witness to the troops’ unwavering commitment as well. A routine patrol in Jibia LGA culminated in a showdown with armed bandits, resulting in the neutralization of three bandits. This brave operation did come at a cost, as two soldiers sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

Major General Godwin Mutkut, Commander of the Joint Task Force Northwest OPHD, lauded the troops for their relentless efforts and urged them to continue their mission of dismantling banditry. He affirmed his commitment to eradicating bandit enclaves and declared that no corner of the operational zone would be left unattended.

As darkness envelops the region, bandits seek to exploit poor visibility for their nefarious deeds. General Mutkut appealed to vigilant citizens to bolster their watchfulness and ensure the safety of their communities.
