Senator Ningi Quits PDP After 28 Years Of Membership
Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after 28 years of membership.
According to Ireporter Online, Ningi announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ningi Ward in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, stating that the decision came after extensive consultations with his supporters, associates, and key stakeholders.
The senator, who joined the PDP in 1998, had been a long-standing member of the party, serving two terms in the House of Representatives and two terms in the Senate under its platform. He described the PDP as once being “the largest political party in Africa,” noting its earlier reputation for strong ideological values, unity, and democratic participation.
However, Ningi expressed concern over what he described as persistent internal leadership crises, factional divisions, and competing interests, which he said have weakened the party’s structure and cohesion.
He was quoted as saying, “It is now a great concern and worrisome to me that this virile and united platform could be turned into a ramshackle organisation with internal leadership wrangling and factional interests.”
The lawmaker further stated that his exit from the party was a difficult but necessary decision, adding that the PDP had provided him the platform to serve his constituency and the nation with distinction over the years.
He also extended appreciation to party leaders at all levels for their support throughout his political journey, while wishing the party well as he moves forward in his political career outside the PDP.
