Sleepless Nights For Workers As IPPIS Delists 17,000 Federal Civil Servants From Payroll (DETAILS)

Approximately 17,000 federal civil servants, who did not adhere to the verification exercise mandated by the Federal Government, have been removed from the payroll.

These affected employees are facing anxiety and uncertainty, as their salaries have been withheld by the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Addressing the situation, Tommy Okon, the President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), urged the concerned employees to remain calm, assuring them that measures were being put in place to rectify the issue.

He criticized the workers for disregarding government directives over a span of five years. He also mentioned that Dr. Yemi Esan, the Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF), extended the exercise by a week to allow affected employees, who were inadvertently omitted from the IPPIS portal, to submit their documents for updating, provided they had valid reasons.

Okon explained, “We recently became aware of a situation involving over 17,000 workers in the core civil service who did not complete the online verification conducted by the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. We promptly took action to engage with the government through the HoSF. This necessitated our communication with our members because we observed a lot of anxiety among them. We received numerous phone calls. We also took into consideration the timing due to the prevailing socioeconomic challenges.”

“Upon further examination of the documents, we discovered that even in some government agencies, names of Personal Assistants (PAs), Special Assistants (SAs), and some ministers were included in the IPPIS portal, even though these individuals held political office positions in their respective regimes.”

Regarding assistance for the affected workers, Okon mentioned that a committee had been established in the office of the HOSF to handle related cases. He urged those with legitimate grievances, who had completed the online verification, to submit scanned copies of their documents to the provided email address.

However, Okon expressed that the one-week deadline given by the HoSF for full compliance with the directive was too brief, and he appealed to the government to extend the grace period due to anticipated challenges.
