Sporadic Gunfire As LG Chairman Seizes Ikwerre Secretariat In Rivers [Video]

Israel Abosi, the newly elected Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, has reclaimed the council secretariat just hours after it was set ablaze by unknown arsonists. Accompanied by his deputy, newly elected councillors, and a large crowd of supporters, including armed vigilantes who fired shots into the air, Abosi made a bold statement.

The supporters’ chants of solidarity and defiant messages to political rivals underscored their determination. “We will not be intimidated by acts of violence,” Abosi declared at the secretariat. “We are dedicated to serving the people of Ikwerre and advancing our local government.”

Naija News recalls that the newly constructed council secretariat at Isiokpo in the Ikwerre Local Government area was set on fire on Monday. The arson attack occurred following the withdrawal of police officers who had been securing the 23 council secretariats in Rivers State, as ordered by the commissioner of police.

Additionally, the Emohua Local Government Council secretariat was also set ablaze. In a show of defiance, some youths blocked the entrance, chanting in support of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, insisting that the new chairman, David Omereji, would not be allowed to take office.
