The Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has emphasized that state governors must take full responsibility for the security and welfare of citizens within their jurisdictions, particularly in times of crisis.

According to reports, the cleric made the remarks while reacting to the abduction of teachers and pupils from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The victims were reportedly kidnapped after gunmen attacked three schools located in the Esinele, Yawota, and Alawusa communities on May 15.

The attackers were said to have presented several conditions for the release of the captives, including the freedom of detained terrorist commanders, payment of ransom, provision of two Hilux vehicles, and the implementation of Sharia-related regulations.

Speaking during a sermon, Mbaka urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to take decisive measures to secure the release of the abducted children, stressing that state leaders should not transfer responsibility for internal security matters to the Federal Government.

He maintained that governors are entrusted with significant resources and authority to address security challenges within their states and should therefore be held accountable when such incidents occur. Mbaka further questioned the management of security votes allocated to state governments, arguing that those funds are intended to strengthen safety and emergency response mechanisms.

The cleric also called for unity and collaboration among political leaders in addressing insecurity across the country, cautioning against turning security issues into political disputes or engaging in blame games.

Offering prayers for the victims and their families, Mbaka sought divine intervention for their safe return and urged authorities at all levels to intensify efforts toward rescuing the abducted schoolchildren. He concluded by reiterating the need for greater accountability and commitment from public office holders in safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.
