Tears For Enugu: Atiku, Peter Obi Console Families Of Tanker Explosion Victims

Former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party have extended their condolences to victims of the tragic petrol tanker explosion in Enugu State.

The incident occurred on Saturday at Ugwu Onyeama in Enugu North, claiming about 15 lives. This tragedy comes just a week after approximately 100 people lost their lives while scooping fuel from a fallen tanker at Ditto Junction in Suleja, Niger State.

In a statement on Saturday, former Vice President Atiku called for an immediate investigation into the frequent tanker-related tragedies.
“Oh dear, not again! My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of all the victims of the fuel tanker explosion in Enugu. May their souls find eternal rest. These incidents have reached emergency levels, and the government must urgently launch an inquiry into the matter,” Atiku stated.

Similarly, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi urged the government to prioritize safety and implement measures to prevent such disasters.
“Barely a week after a similar incident in Niger State claimed nearly a hundred lives, another explosion in Enugu has left 15 dead. These recurring tragedies are deeply concerning,” Obi noted.

He emphasized the importance of road maintenance, strict safety protocols, and public education on accident scene management to mitigate future occurrences.
“My heart goes out to the grieving families. I sympathize with the people and government of Enugu State over this devastating event. May God grant eternal rest to the deceased and quick recovery to the injured,” he added.

Both leaders have called for immediate action to address the increasing number of tanker-related accidents across the country.
