According to Ireporter Online, former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has praised Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy and Coordination and Head of the Central Delivery Unit, while taking a thinly veiled jab at her critics.

Speaking at a colloquium to mark Bala Usman’s 50th birthday in Abuja on Tuesday, Oshiomhole said those who attempted to tarnish her reputation during her tenure as Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) are now facing difficulties.

“When you were appointed as MD of the Nigerian Ports Authority, some people intoxicated with power tried to undermine you without knowing your background. They sought to damage your family’s name, but ultimately, they have tarnished themselves and are now hungry,” Oshiomhole said. He added that this “hunger” reflects their diminishing influence and capacity to oppress others.

Oshiomhole further highlighted Bala Usman’s achievements, noting the presence of Nigeria’s Vice President at the event as a testament to her leadership and influence. He praised her intellect, strategic contributions during the elections, and her role in implementing policy reforms, emphasizing that President Tinubu’s appointment of her was based on competence, not favoritism.

“Policies are not made haphazardly. President Tinubu recognizes your value, which is why he retained you. Reformist governments often face opposition, but those committed to shaping a better future take risks and execute policies decisively,” Oshiomhole added.

The former governor’s remarks come in the backdrop of recent criticisms from former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who had previously recommended Bala Usman’s suspension and called for a probe during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Amaechi has since criticized the Tinubu-led government. Oshiomhole’s speech positioned Bala Usman as a resilient and capable public servant whose achievements continue to overshadow detractors.
