Tinubu Committed To Bolstering NDLEA In Ongoing Drug War – NSA, AGF

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will continue to bolster the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) because of its critical role in safeguarding Nigeria’s national security.

Speaking at the commissioning of 46 operational vehicles for the Agency’s strategic commands and formations in Abuja, Ribadu praised NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), for his transformative leadership, discipline, and unwavering commitment to tackling illicit drug trafficking.

According to Ireporter Online, Ribadu stressed that the fight against drug trafficking is inseparable from addressing insecurity, as criminal groups, insurgents, and other armed elements often fund their operations through the illicit drug trade.

He noted that the provision of the new vehicles will enhance the NDLEA’s ability to respond rapidly, intercept traffickers, and reinforce deterrence nationwide.

He assured that the Office of the National Security Adviser will continue to provide full support to the Agency while coordinating with other security agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Customs Service, and NAFDAC.

In his remarks, Marwa described the event as symbolic of the administration’s continuous investment in equipping frontline security institutions.

He outlined the NDLEA’s achievements under President Tinubu’s leadership, including the arrest of over 40,000 drug offenders—45 of them high-profile barons—seizure of 5.5 million kilograms of illicit substances, destruction of more than 700 hectares of cannabis farms, and rehabilitation of over 24,000 drug users.

According to Ireporter Online, he emphasised that these results reflect a balanced approach between drug supply reduction and demand reduction, but warned that the drug economy continues to evolve, requiring sharper intelligence and stronger logistics support.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), commended the President for enabling NDLEA’s progress, describing Marwa’s leadership as a morale booster for the Agency’s personnel. Also speaking, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, lauded the NDLEA for its professionalism, operational efficiency, and strict compliance with procurement standards.

According to Ireporter Online, the ceremony concluded with the decoration of 15 newly promoted Commanders of Narcotics with their new rank of Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, marking another milestone in the Agency’s commitment to strengthening its leadership structure in the ongoing war against illicit drugs.
